Summit of world leaders in the field of new technologies, advertising and communication with collaborators of Pope Francis.
Have you thought about what our children's lives will be like in 30 years? Will they be able to sign an insurance contract even if their medical file includes 100% serious illness? What will romantic relationships be like in an ecosystem totally influenced by online relationships? Will they control or be controlled by information on the Internet? These questions worry Pope Francis, who even though he continues to have his agenda of paper and pen, fully understands the impact that the technological revolution has on people's lives, especially young people.
But these questions also worry the leading companies of this revolution, such as tech giants such as Google, now Alphabet, the agencies that are grabbing a good chunk of the world's advertising pie, and the studios that are creating the new TV and Internet formats that are triumphant among young people. .
For this reason, the Secretariat for Communication of the Holy See, created by Pope Francis, the Pontifical Lateran University and the La Tela Digitale association have decided to respond to the proposals of some of the leaders of the digital industry and sit around the same table, to one day, in order to address common concerns together.
The conference held in 2016, on the theme "The transmission of values in the digital age", was the first space for privileged dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Mass Media on these issues, on which the future of humanity partly depends. The dialogue on the ethical challenges posed by new technologies is one of the central themes of the meeting, the participants will address in particular the appeal launched by Pope Francis in the encyclical Laudato Si ', when he recognized that "as never before in history, common destiny obliges us to seek a new beginning ”.
